Serger Binding Workshop: Finish Your Quilt with Confidence
This is a hands-on workshop designed to help you feel confident using a serger for quilt binding.
You'll work on your own project, with guidance along the way, so you can see exactly how it works—and how it feels—on something that matters to you.
What you'll learn
- How to prepare your quilt edge for serger binding
- How to attach binding using a 4-thread overlock stitch
- Tips for smooth feeding, clean edges, and consistent results
- What people mean when they say it "just feels easier"
Optional: Fusible Thread Technique
For those who want to take it a step further, we'll also briefly show how to use fusible thread in the lower looper.
This can help the binding lightly adhere in place after you've sewn it, making the process even smoother.
This is completely optional and not required for the workshop.
If you'd like to try it, you'll need:
- Fusible thread
- An extra spool pin or thread stand (for machines that don't have a 5th thread position)
What to bring
To get the most out of this workshop, each participant must bring a quilt that is fully prepared and ready for binding.
Please bring:
- A baby to lap size quilt, trimmed and ready for binding
- Binding strips cut 2.25"–2.5" wide, sewn together and pressed
- Your serger (overlocker) in good working condition
- 4-thread setup (2 needles, 2 loopers)
- New needles recommended
Who this is for
- Quilters who want a faster, cleaner way to finish their quilts
- Anyone who has a serger but hasn't fully used it yet
- Anyone who's seen our demos and is ready to try it themselves
Class fee will be credited toward the purchase of a serger within 30 days.
